I feel truly honored to be here sharing Robert Kaufman’s celebration of 30 years of Kona Solids! Now this wonderful collection has 303 different colors! To celebrate, they asked 30 different designers to play in their crayon box and come up with their favorite quilt in Kona Solids. (Good thing they like the number three!) And guess, what? They asked me to be one of them!! YES!
I was in a particularly springy mood at the time and completely inspired by their yellow, lime, and orange colors… So, allow me to present Spin City in citrus colors!
I picked a quilt that is 10″ square friendly so I could play with the many different shades and really show off the collection of Kona colors. I also picked one of my favorite Cozy Quilt Designs patterns for showcasing lights, mediums and darks. At first I played with it in Electric Quilt, so I actually had a few other options to consider… check out this graphically engineered version in soft blues, purples and browns. Don’t you just love the shading effect?
Or how about this version that uses black as a background? I twisted and turned the blocks to create a totally different look! My very favorite thing about designing is exploring all the many options quilting can offer.. even within the same pattern!
If you love my final Spin City Quilt as much as I do check it out on the Robert Kaufman website. And totally check out the Look Book for the other 29 amazing quilts. All so different. All so inspiring. My particular favorites are Smithereens by Emily Cier and the Bartow pattern by Carolyn Friedlander (which is actually a free pattern on the RK website! Click here for a direct link!)
Now the for really fun part! I get to give a lucky someone a charm pack of the new Kona Colors!!! All you have to do is leave a comment on this post to be entered to win. You have 24 hours, then I pick a winner. Make it a nice comment to be considered. Just kidding.. sort of .:-)

I like the quilt with black best, but all are neat.
I love it in the blues and browns! Nice work!
love working with solids!
I’ve been a big fan of Kona Cotton for 30 years. I’ve even had multiple orders of 10 yards plus of Kona Cotton delivered to me while on vacation in Kona, Hawaii! Love the idea of using all the shades of Kona Cotton in Spin City.

Hmmmmm, now how did I miss seeing the Spin City quilt pattern? I love it in the citrus colors.
I never imagined Kona has 303 colors, I would love just a few in your charm pack, Kathy
Kona Cotton is my very favorite blenders to use for that special color you can’t find to bring the whole quilt together.
Oh do I want those Kona solids I’m going to get that book. Love Spin City the way the colors fade.
Lovely to see those colours on such a dreary day!
I am trying to use more solids because they’re so beautiful, but it’s tricky!

What a refreshing quilt, and I wasn’t much of a solid fabric fan, but I really love what you have done with it.
